BMJ Case Rep Published online: [please include Day Month Year] doi:10.1136/bcr-2016215391 DESCRIPTION A 55-year-old woman living in a rural area of Oaxaca, southeast Mexico, presented with an 11-year history of 2 warty-like erythaematous and painful plaques, 10–12 cm long on her right leg (figure 1). There was no evidence of any underlying disease. Skin biopsy revealed pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia with fumagoid cells. Tissue culture grew a black fungus with a velvety texture, later identified as Fonsecaea pedrosoi, on microscopic examination (figure 2). Oral itraconazole 200 mg twice daily was initiated. Chromoblastomycosis is a subcutaneous, chronic mycosis caused frequently by the dematiaceous fungi, F. pedrosoi, with a worldwide distribution,

Unique case report of a chromomycosis and Listeria in soft tissue and cerebellar abscesses after kidney transplantation
BACKGROUND Chromomycosis is a rare mycotic infection encountered in tropical and subtropical regions. The disease presents as a slowly-evolving nodule that can become infected with bacteria. Here, we describe a unique association of abscesses caused by a chromomycosis and Listeria monocytogenes in a kidney transplant recipient, and didactically expose how the appropriate diagnosis was reached. ...
متن کاملChromomycosis, an unusual cause of cicatricial ectropion: a case report.
Chromomycosis is a fungal infection that affects the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue and is caused by dematiaceous fungal species that turn black on staining. We report the case of a 50-year-old male patient who was a rural worker and had been treated without success for three decades. Facial lesions progressed and caused severe cicatricial retraction. As the infection evolved, the l...
متن کاملDetection of Infectious Fungal Diseases of Frogs Inhabiting in Korea
In recent years, there has been a rapid decrease in amphibian populations worldwide, and infectious diseases have been associated with this decline. Diseased frogs inhabiting Korea were collected from fields, and the diseases were identified by morphological and molecular analyses. Two fungal diseases-saprolegniasis and chromomycosis-were detected in the frogs. Saprolegniasis caused by Saproleg...

To the best of our knowledge, this is the third report of CO2 laser therapy for chromomycosis. 3,4 Up to now, for locali...
متن کاملConjugation in the dimorphic chromomycosis fungus Phialophora dermatitidis.
Phase-contrast microscope observations of the dimorphic fungus Phialophora dermatitidis revealed that thick-walled yeasts often tended to form aggregates and then to conjugate. Fusions were also observed among hyphae derived from the thick-walled yeasts.
متن کاملcases . West Indies . A report of three Mycoses imported from the
Introduction The Caribbean and West Indies are surrounded on 3 sides by endemic zones for most of the major deep mycoses. To the north in the United States there are the southernmost limits of the endemic areas of histoplasmosis and blastomycosis with coccidioidomycosis further to the west in Texas. In Mexico significant numbers of cases of sporotrichosis and mycetoma (madura foot) are seen, wh...
